Why You Should Consider Waterloo Custom Pools For Your Project

When building a pool in our region you must contend with three issues:
Karst Topography

Much of Central Texas sits on thick limestone from ancient seabed. Over time, our slightly acidic rainfall dissolves the limestone and creates underground fractures and sinkhole-like voids. Often, the ground that may appear solid above, even park like, but can vary dramatically a few feet below the surface.
Expansive clay soils

Some Hill Country areas also contain highly expansive clays. These soils swell when wet and shrink as they dry out. Texas heat and draught exacerbate this effect so the soil will move upward during wet periods and turn downward during hot and dry periods. The ground can literally shift seasonally.
Steep slopes and erosion

Hill Country lots are often sloped and our heavy rainstorms can wash out supporting soil. This can cause erosion under decking and destabilize retaining walls. All the limestone in the region increases the chance for flash floods as limestone does not absorb water very well. Localized flooding can create enough hydrostatic pressure around the pool that it can actually pop it out of the ground.
Our Solution
Our proprietary methodology starts with extensive site evaluation, including structural design and excavation consideration. When required, the first step in construction is to create a “foundation” in which your pools will rest. This mitigates the instability of the surrounding soil. Yes, this does increase cost, but in our thirty-five year history, we have been able to create beautiful pools and spas that have remained stable for our customers to enjoy over the decades.
